Essay Competition The brilliant girl defeated competition from two other opponents to win the 2021 ultimate cash prize of US$5,000 (GHc32,000+) The first and second runners-up took home US$3,000 and US$2000 respectively, culminating in an educational grant of US$10,000 for the three finalists. A brilliant student, Amanor Yohunor of Ghana Senior High School Koforidua, GHANAS, has emerged as the winner of the 2021 National Essay Competition. She clinched the trophy by defying competition from her contenders Michael Kissi Asrifi from Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School, Legon, and Adamu Ayishatu from Presbyterian Senior High Technical School, Aburi, who won the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively.

Announcing the winners at a ceremony in Accra, the Deputy Managing Director of UBA Ghana, Sylvia Inkoom sent out plaudits to all 10 finalists. 2021 Northern Sector Ghana Robotics Competition

The annual Ghana Robotics Academy Foundation inter Senior High School northern sector was held at Our Lady of Grace SHS on Friday, 5th November, 2021.

Some of the participating schools within the northern sector included Prempeh College and OLAG SHS participating in the ARC-Open challenge. After battling through three rounds of challenging activities, all three teams from OLAG SHS managed to win all top three slots in the northern sector. Wulugu SHS Shut Down Over Students Riots

Wulugu — Wulugu Senior High School (SHS) in the West Mamprusi Municipality of North East Region, has shut down over students riot.

The action of the management of the school was to stop destruction of the school properties by the rioting students. Students of the school, on Wednesday, went on a rampage and destroyed bungalows and other properties of the school. The irate students claimed that the headmaster and the staff were maltreating them. The students also complained that the school authorities were giving them poor food, resulting in some of them falling sick.

A reliable source from the school told the Ghanaian Times that the students had earlier on complained to authority of poor quality of food. The source indicated that but for the timely intervention of security personnel, the students would have caused havoc at the school. The situation forced the school governing council, to close down the school pending investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, a five member-committee, has been constituted to investigate the cause of the riots. The North East Regional Minister, Mr Yidana Zakaria, speaking to journalists, said talks were ongoing to calm the situation. He said the students, staff and head teacher have been invited by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to solve the problem. He said the REGSEC and educational authorities were investigating the case.

Kpone Community SHS Receives Laboratory Equipment from VRA

The Volta River Authority has donated science laboratory equipment valued at Twenty-five Thousand, One Hundred and Five Ghana Cedis (GH₵ 25,105.00) to the Kpone Community Senior High School.

The donation, though a Corporate Social Responsibility, also forms part of Management's strategy of extending its environmental footprint and adding value to the lives of the residents in the impacted communities. Presenting the items, Director, General Services, Ms. Shirley Seidu, expressed the hope that the equipment would facilitate the teaching and learning of science in the school. She urged the students to study hard to become responsible citizens. Receiving the items, Headmaster of the school, Mr. Wiafe Akenten, thanked VRA for their commendable support and assured that proper care of the items will be taken. He proposed the naming of the Schools Physics Science laboratory after VRA, considering the Authority's tremendous support to the school. He recounted how, VRA has invested immensely in community development projects in the areas of education, social and economic empowerment. Items donated included chest freezer, round bottom flask, retort stand and clamp, acids, liquid detergent, disposable gloves, periodic table, pipette, burette, etc. Present at the event was Manager CSR, Mr. Sam Fletcher, Plant Manager TTPC, Ing. Edward Obeng Kenzo and Information Publicity Officers, Mr. Lawrence Quartey and John Chobbah.
